Press Release
appearing in the April edition of the "Glenorchy Gazette
BY NOW, YOU MAY HAVE HEARD THAT I HAVE DECIDED TO CONTEST THE MAY 1ST ELECTION FOR THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL SEAT OF ELWICK.
It is a wonderful honour to be serving as the Mayor of Glenorchy. I love my job, but I also have a responsibility to look to the future.
I like to think the one thing I have done as Mayor is put the interests of our City first, and fight for a better deal for Glenorchy. Whether for better health services, or a fairer deal from water and sewerage reforms, I have not been afraid to speak up for what Council believes to be in the best interests of Glenorchy.
With the uncertainty of the recent State election result and now minority government, it is more important than ever that Glenorchy has a strong independent voice representing our interests in the Tasmanian Parliament and not just the best interests of the political parties Over the next few years there will be many issues that come before the Parliament that
could have a significant impact on Glenorchy.
I know some of you will have concerns about what this all means for Glenorchy City Council.
If I am elected to the Legislative Council, I will continue to serve as Mayor at least until current term concludes with the next local government elections due in October 2011.
This ensures there will be no expensive bi-election for a new Mayor. It also allows time for some of my capable colleagues on Council to consider running for the position of Mayor.
I intend to continue to act in the best interests of the City of Glenorchy.
Of course I am happy to discuss this further with you.
Yours sincerely
ADRIANA TAYLOR
