Introducing Adriana Taylor

Adriana Taylor was born in Tilburg in Holland in 1946, the youngest of 3 children. Her family migrated to Australia in 1956 and settled in Sydney.

Adriana completed her secondary education at the Sisters of Charity's College at Potts Point in Sydney and commenced her university studies at the University of New England in 1964. She graduated with a B.A. at the end of 1967.

Adriana married Beres Taylor in 1968 and they lived in Gunnedah where they taught prior to moving to Sydney in 1970. In Sydney, Adriana held a position in staff training and development with Grace Bros.

Adriana and Beres moved to Burnie in Tasmania in 1972 to take up teaching positions at Marist Regional College, where they both taught for 2 years before moving to Hobart and returning to study at the University of Tasmania. Adriana completed her Diploma in Education and began teaching at Risdon Vale Primary School in 1975. In 1978, following the arrival of 1st son Patrick, Adriana worked part time as the school- community liaison officer. With the arrival of second son Stephen, Adriana left full time teaching at the end of 1978 to devote herself to her young family.

During the 1980s, Adriana and Beres devoted their time to developing and running Loculus Retreat Centre. They also became increasingly involved in the Collinsvale community, particularly the Collinsvale Community Association, the Collinsvale Country Fair/Show and Collinsvale branch of CWA.

Adriana was first elected to Council in March 1999, re-elected in October 2003, elected as Mayor in October 2005 and re-elected in October 2007.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (UNE), a Diploma of Education (University of Tasmania) and has wide professional experience in education and community advocacy and is a graduate of the Company Directors Institute of Australia.

Adriana is a Chairman of Glenorchy Council’s Planning Authority and represents Council on the:

·                General Manager’s Performance Review Committee

She is a member of the Glenorchy Reconciliation Group, Achieving Reconciliation Tasmania and a Trustee of the Aunty Ida West Wyballenna Trust Fund. Alderman Taylor is an Honorary Rotarian and a Member of the Country Women’s Association.

She is the Chairman of the Claremont College School Association, President of Womensport and Recreation Tasmania, President of the Bethlehem House Board, a member of the Cosgrove Community Learning Centre Management Committee, and the TCA's Female Cricket Promotion Committee. Nationally she has represented Tasmanian consumers on the Commonwealth Consumer Affairs Advisory Council and the Australian Pensioners Insurance Agency.
